An American in Paris by George Gershwin is a lively, multi-layered orchestral composition, inspired by the vigorous and vivid life of the French capital. Drawing inspiration from the bold rhythm and the episodic nature of the piece, I created a dynamic composition to convey the energy of the music. The color palette is reminiscent of its genre influence, as well as the art and design scene of early 20th century Europe.
I developed a custom typeface to depict the historic and cultural context of the work. My approach included exploring distinctive design concepts that could best convey the energy of the piece and the story behind it.
